Discovery Trail
A Discovery Trail for the Church has been developed in collaboration with The Arts Society. Although designed as a fun activity for children between the ages of 8 and 12, anyone who wishes to discover more about Eastnor Church, its history, architecture, monuments and stained-glass windows will enjoy the challenge that the trail offers. Copies of the question sheet and pencils can be found in the Church; there are 14 questions and the trail should take about 30 minutes to complete. An answer sheet is also provided.
The Arts Society is a leading arts education charity with a global network of 380 societies which bring people together through a shared curiosity for the arts. The help of the local branch in the preparation of this trail has been invaluable and is much appreciated. Find out more about The Arts Society here.
Bell Ringing
The church originally had a peal of 6 bells, including a tenor bell weighing 9 cwt. A restoration project was launched in 2017 for all 6 bells to be rehung. The bells were removed from the tower in April 2021, a process that took 3 days and was last carried out in 1926. There is an excellent video of the process available on YouTube here.
In March 2022, the bells were rehung including a new bell to replace the old tenor bell which could not be rehung. The process was carried out by Whites of Appleton with assistance from the Ringing Master, Alan Bagworth and a team of volunteers. At the end of 3 days hard work, the bells rang out once again from Eastnor Church. Another excellent video by Tim Keyes of the rehanging of the bells can be viewed here.
Monday morning practice has now resumed from10.30 to 12 noon, led by the Ringing Master, Alan Bagworth. The bells are also rung for the twice monthly morning services. The ringing team are planning a special peal for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
If you would like further information about the bells or wish to join the band, please contact Alan on 01531 635667 or the Tower Captain, Celia Walters, on 01432 853271. The band of ringers at Eastnor are very friendly and enquiries are welcome.
Flowers
A dedicated group of volunteers take it in turns to create floral arrangements for the altar for a two week period, often using flowers from their own gardens. During the special occasions in the Church calendar of Easter, Harvest and Christmas the group works together to decorate the Church, including making arrangements for the windowsills.
We are always pleased to welcome new members to the group, if you are interested please get in touch with the Ledbury Group Ministry Office.
